The tuner comes with a number of pre-defined tunings for stringed instruments. In this mode the tuner only recognizes notes that are defined for the specified tuning. Permits tuning to any of the 12 notes from C0 to C8, in any temperament.

The internal timing generator is calibrated at the factory to maintain a precision of ±.02 cents. It is completely disconnected from all internal circuitry and the tuner puts zero load on the signal. The output of the ST-200 is muted when the tuner is on, and when off the input signal is passed directly to the output. This gives zero latency and instantly shows the slightest tuning error. The ring of LEDs is a true stroboscope, driven directly by the analog input signal and a precision internal frequency reference. Also, try plucking the string with the side of the thumb rather than a pick.Įasy to read display instantly shows the slightest difference in pitch of the note played from the indicated note. Plucking away from the bridge gives a clearer pattern than right next to the bridge. You can also back off the tone control for even greater clarity on the bass strings. There are several things you can do to reduce the harmonics and get a cleaner looking display:įor electric guitars, selecting the pickup closest to the neck will give the clearest pattern. This does not affect the operation of the tuner. The Turbo Tuner's true strobe display responds to all the harmonics of the note as well as the fundamental, and the more harmonics, the more complex the display. This will eliminate sympathetic vibrations and give a quicker response and a cleaner pattern in the strobe display. Mute the strings not being tuned by resting your fingers on them. The Turbo Tuner is designed to respond quickly to the notes from your guitar without resorting to adjusting the volume or plucking the string differently than you normally would when playing. This will be described in a later section. These can be modified for any tuning with up to 9 strings, and can also be set to chromatic mode, with offsets for each note for special tunings. The table below shows the settings pre-programmed into the ST-200. The note display in the center of the LED ring will show the string number instead of the note name. For example, standard guitar tuning has six notes, E4, B3, G3, D3, A2 and E2. In guitar mode, the tuner only selects notes that are defined for the particular tuning. When stationary, the note is perfectly in tune. The farther out of tune, the faster the pattern will rotate. The direction of rotation indicates whether the note is sharp or flat. Play a note and observe the pattern in the LEDs. When the tuner is off, the signal is passed straight through with absolutely no load on the signal. When the tuner is on, the output is muted. The ST-200 will run for 12 hours continuous on an alkaline battery, enough for about 1,000 tune ups. Optionally connect a 9 Volt external power source. Hold during power up to change number of flats

It actually picks up a note slightly faster than the VS-1 and the massive display is kinda cool.The Turbo Tuner ST-200 Stompbox Strobe Tuner - Owner's Manual Lately too I've been using the Peterson StroboSoft on my iPad and honestly for $10 it's a great deal. Any amp with a tuner out solves this but an option to mute or not would be nice. My one complaint with it is that tuning always mutes the sound and doing setups or tuning acoustic instruments on stage don't like taking my ears out of play simultaneous to using the tuner. If I had to have just one to do it all this would be it.a very worthwhile investment. The Turbo Tuner is very solidly built and super fast.

I also have the 1st generation Peterson StroboStomp and a Turbo Tuner that are both excellent tuners I would not hesitate to have on the bench. I've used a lot of tuners as a player and a road tech and my favorite bench tuner in terms of function and durability has been the Peterson VS-1 I've had for couldn't be worth more than $75 used.
